The thing about cartooning is that it is a lonely endeavor. Usually you do it at home, at night, after you’re off duty from your day job. If you’re like most cartoonists you do comics around the edges of everything else in your life. That can sometimes get discouraging. Then you attend San Diego Comic Con (or some other similar event) and you’re reminded that you’re not alone and you’re also reminded of how much you LOVE comics. You come home feeling rejuvenated and inspired. At least that was my experience this year. So one day of “Jane” this week on GoComics just wasn’t enough for me. I hope you enjoy the week.
I’ll be at the Charles M Schulz Museum and Research Center Saturday, April 29th as part of their author series. I won’t be reading comics, I’ll be reading from the Jane’s World prose novel published last year by Bold Strokes Books. The expanded story of Jane and her pals is full of humor and at times, sexy exploits.
Please join me for the reading. I’ll also be signing novels written under my pen name, Missouri Vaun.
Where: Charles M Schulz Museum and Research Center, 2301 Hardies Ln, Santa Rosa, California 95403
The trouble with exes is that you never know when they’re going to show up, or with whom. And even if you’re sure that breaking up was the right thing to do (which Dorothy isn’t so sure about) you definitely don’t want to see them on a date with someone you think is hotter than you are. And not at the same restaurant! Especially when all you wanted was a fun dinner out with a friend who promised to cheer you up. There aren’t enough margaritas in the world for this sort of scenario… as Dorothy is about to find out.
New Jane’s World comic are appearing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on the newly redesigned GoComics site!
For those of you who read the Jane’s World prose novel that came out in June of 2016 (came out… pun intended), you may notice some similarities in the current story line running on GoComics. Yes, Jane did accidentally purchase a mail order bride in the novel, but in the comics form of this narrative, things won’t happen exactly the same way. Some of you might wonder why. Well, because stories don’t translate exactly the same way in different mediums. It just doesn’t work… and anyway, certain changes (and embellishments ) will be funnier for the comic.
Cheers and happy belated 2017!
Nothing says “Ho, Ho, Ho” quite like a bad Christmas sweater 🙂
New Jane’s World comics post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on GoComics!
I was thinking about all my friends who are traveling this week and who are possibly going to be in situations that may be a bit uncomfortable. For everyone sharing their Thanksgiving with friends or family who voted across the line from you. May the spirit of peace be with you. And for anyone who still feels… well, upset… this comic is for you. Thank you, Chelle.
“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is not time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.” — Toni Morrison
My wife, Evelyn shared this quote from Toni Morrison earlier on Facebook and it echoed what I’ve been feeling for the past week.
With everything that’s been going on I’m now more motivated than ever to create new Jane’s World comics. New stories begin in December, which I had planned anyway, before the election. But given the current discourse in our country I think it’s important for Jane’s World to have a daily presence. I probably will not touch on actual politics in any of the new stories, but Jane will instead, hopefully, offer a safe space… a respite from the angry noise that currently surrounds all of us. Be strong, friends. Now is the time to be kind to one another.
